![]() ![]() Wizards of the Coast (WotC) being Wizards, TBoED/FH might become too prevalent in casual tiers that they do decide to act in some way with the combo (and again, the stalemate possibility of 2 players using the same combo is a genuine problem). Or maybe TBoED/FH will be a forgotten combo by then as new combos become more prevalent with the new set.īut who knows. Maybe Innistrad: Midnight Hunt will include more land destruction across Black and Green, and not just Red. By the time the actual Standard 2022 kicks in-when Innistrad: Midnight Hunt gets released-who knows what cards and meta will shift by then. In other words, we are all playtesters trying out a new format. It won't get banned in Standard 2022 because the current makeshift format-which comprises only of the 4 latest sets-isn't an official format outside of Magic Arena. So this combo isn't as abusive in a different format like regular Standard or Historic (where there are other, worse combos you have to deal with). The current meta where it's not popular to include artifact destruction spells (of which there is no shortage of) Lack of land destruction cards in the current rotation (there are 4 land destruction cards, and all of them requires Red mana), and What some players need to understand is that TBoED/FH is currently only difficult to deal with in Standard 2022 format due to two factors: Why It Likely Won't Get Banned in Standard 2022 Veteran players of Magic have experienced such combos before (and perhaps even more debilitating ones), and while it can be annoying to face a TBoED/FH deck, it's also relatively easy to sideboard against if it becomes popular in your meta (and I say "in your meta" because of how matchmaking works).įor example, it's unlikely that this combo will be played in highly competitive decks (see this list as an example), but it could be prevalent in casual games, where players don't know how to deal with it. The ones who are mostly complaining tend to skew towards the former, mainly because this is probably their first experience of a preventable but debilitating two-card combination. ![]() (Obviously there are people who are somewhere in the middle.) On one hand, you have players new to the game (or just play it casually), and on the other end of the spectrum, you have competitive players who know the game inside and out, and perhaps are even playing Magic professionally. This is an oversimplification, but in general, there are two extremes of Magic Arena players. Allow me to explain, including how to deal with this combination. While there's a vocal segment of this subreddit asking the combo to be banned, it's not likely going to happen-although deadlocks of two opponents playing Book of Exalted Deeds and not getting a tie is a shortcoming of the game engine (and hopefully gets fixed). One of the popular combos currently in Standard 2022 (which only includes the latest 4 expansions) is The Book of Exalted Deeds paired with Faceless Haven (TBoED/FH), and it's leaving a lot of new players salty. ![]()
